within the context of a society that is historically rooted in the structural oppression and subjugation of entire groups of people. This context not only impacts how mental health providers understand and approach their work, but has also been shown to be one of the strongest predictors and primary sources or causes of “mental illness” in our society. Our use of the name Tenacity implies that we do not strive to simply help clients to better cope with injustice and inequality in their life but also to empower them to find and pursue means of experiencing greater resistance and liberation in their lives.
