Kayla was born and raised in Indiana before relocating to Chicago to pursue her PhD in Counseling Psychology at Loyola University Chicago. Kayla is in her diagnostic practicum, focusing on assessing clients throughout the lifespan and across domains (e.g., autism, memory, personality, career).
Although she works from an eclectic paradigm that intentionally incorporates a range of approaches to best meet the needs of her clients, her foundational therapeutic approach is humanistic. She chose this approach as she believes that when provided with a compassionate, nonjudgmental, and supportive environment, people can access their internal sources of healing. As such, she provides a deeply empathetic and affirming space where clients feel genuinely seen, heard, and empowered. Her presence invites trust and emotional safety, allowing for meaningful exploration and transformation. As the assessing clinician, she takes a holistic approach to diagnosis by considering the full context of one’s experiences and backgrounds, ensuring that her assessments are person-centered and culturally appropriate.
Beyond the therapy room, she is a fierce advocate for equity and access, working intentionally and creatively to help ensure everyone has the resources needed to live a fulfilled life, especially those from marginalized backgrounds.
In her free time, she loves playing with her dog, traveling (if she has the funds), reading, picking up new hobbies (recently it has been dance), hanging with her family and friends, and learning how to prioritize rest.
